REST is Resistance!

Dear community, we want you to know that rest is not only an act of self-care but also a form of resilience. As people of color, we have invested sweat equity in building America's global power, from its economy through free and underpaid labor to enduring systemic oppression. We deserve to leverage rest as a form of resistance against these systems that have worked against us.

That's where R.E.S.T. comes in - Revitalize, Empower, Support, Thrive. It's time to prioritize our mental health and well-being, and to understand that taking care of ourselves is a powerful act of resistance and resilience.

R | Revitalize

Let's begin with revitalization. It's about doing activities that bring us joy and recharge our energy. It's time to reflect on what makes us feel alive, whether it's dancing, painting, or reading a good book.

Affirm ourselves by saying, "We are worthy of taking time for ourselves to recharge and revitalize."

E | Empower

Empowerment is all about recognizing the importance of prioritizing our mental well-being. It's about understanding that taking care of ourselves is a powerful act of resistance and resilience. Reflect on how empowering it feels to prioritize our mental health and well-being.

Affirm ourselves by saying, "We are empowered when we prioritize our mental health and well-being."

S | Support

Support is crucial when it comes to mental health. It's about seeking and receiving support within the BIPOC community, accessing culturally competent mental health services, and creating safe spaces for open and honest conversations. Reflect on the support we need to prioritize our mental health and well-being.

Affirm ourselves by saying, "We deserve to receive the support we need to thrive."

T | Thrive

Finally, let's talk about thriving. It's not just about surviving but also about thriving in all aspects of our lives. Cultivate resilience, set goals, and strive for holistic well-being. Reflect on what it means to us to thrive.

Affirm ourselves by saying, "We are capable of thriving and achieving our goals, and we prioritize our mental health and well-being in the process."

Remember, rest is not a sign of weakness, but rather a form of resilience. We have invested in America's success, and now it's time to invest in our own success. Prioritizing our mental health is an act of resistance and empowerment against the barriers and challenges that BIPOC individuals face. We deserve to prioritize our well-being and thrive in all aspects of our lives. Affirm ourselves, reflect on what energizes us, and remember that we are capable of anything we set our minds to with R.E.S.T!
