Report summary

At LeadersUp, we examined how justice system interaction actually ranges from those minors who are arrested and released for the suspicion of committing a delinquent act or a status offense; to those juveniles who are convicted of serious offenses and are subsequently ordered to serve time in a secure juvenile detention center or an adult penal facility. Due to the lack of a uniform definition of justice-involvement and the duplicative nature of available data on youth interacting with either the juvenile or adult criminal justice systems, there is currently no established baseline estimate for the number of justice-involved youth in America.
